In this post I share 8 advantages of being an introvert in business specifically in the online space!
I personally struggled with being an introvert when I first started my business. I found myself taking advice from extroverted entrepreneurs and trying to replicate their marketing strategies. I would see results they got from showing up on social media, sharing (what felt like) every moment of their lives! I would get a boost of inspiration and energy which would surprisingly last a couple of months. I would show up on Instagram AND TikTok consistently. But inevitably I would burn myself out and then start hating social media and not want to log on for months.
This turned into a cycle because I would always get distracted by shiny object syndrome; aka extrovert strategies. Eventually, I realized not only was this not sustainable but it also wasn’t going to help me grow my business. Because if there’s one thing I know to be true, it’s that consistency is key. And that burnout cycle was not going to help me be consistent!
When I learned that introverts in business have their own super powers it changed everything for me. And I believe it can for you too!

You do not need to pretend to be extroverted, there are benefits to being an introvert in business and I am going to break them down into 8 advantages!
- Purposeful communication
- Build strong and meaningful relationships
- Focus and concentration
- You thrive working behind the scenes
- Real results over fluff marketing
- Patience and sustainable growth
- Ability to see the big picture and strategize
- Space to explore creativity and innovation
1. Purposeful communication
It’s nice to get to know your clients/customers. Becoming friendly and chit chatting gets easier over time. But the great thing about being an entrepreneur introvert is that you are able to have purposeful communication.
Successful introverts have one thing in common: Strong listening skills.
It’s not uncomfortable for you to get quiet and listen to what your client or customer has to say. Being introverted means that you don’t want to jump in and finish their sentences. It’s not hard for you to really listen and take in what they are telling you. And when you do this you are able to truly understand them, their pain points and their needs. You will be able to answer their questions with useful information because you get them! Once you truly understand them you will know exactly how to support them best. And that really is a super power!
2. Build strong and meaningful relationships
You and I? We are all about small tight knit circles vs. countless friend groups! We want to get deep with less people rather than have a surface relationship with many people.
- Because that aligns with our values and who we are
- Because who has the time or energy to entertain so many friendships!
It’s the same thing in business my friend! (yes, I have inserted myself into your small circle of friends… hope that’s cool!) Imagine how powerful it is for you to have those strong and meaningful relationships with your clients or customers. They will continue to come back to your business because they trust you! They will recommend you to their friends and family and support you as your business grows.
3. Focus and concentration
The introvert entrepreneur isn’t bothered by being left alone to put your head down and get work done! I wish you and I could have a coffee chat because I would love to hear how you work best. Personally as an introvert in business I work best when I’m cuddled up on my couch with a cup of coffee. Depending on what I’m working on, I like it to be perfectly silent! Right now writing this blog post; I don’t have any music, TV, anything on and I can really concentrate. I would love to know if you’re like that too! Let me know in the comments below!
It is true though, being able to focus and concentrate is a huge advantage for you. You know that you can get a whole lot of work done when you create time and space to work, no distractions needed or wanted here!
PS. What happens when you can buckle down and get work done? You create more free time for yourself! And you can use that free time to do all of the other cozy things you love to do. Like, binge Netflix, grab a coffee and go for a walk, or whatever the heck you wanna do!
4. You thrive working behind the scenes
This goes into our previous point of being able to focus and concentrate. But I did want to add this because working behind the scenes is an area of business itself. This can include creating marketing assets for your client on Canva, coming up with business strategies.
Having an online business where you can support others BTS is going to bring you so much joy. Because you’re providing great value and you’re doing it in a comfortable, cozy, introvert approved way! For example, I work BTS when I’m designing websites for my clients and I love it!
5. Real results over fluff marketing
I know you don’t want to show up more than you absolutely have to. You don’t want to be on Socials showing you day to day life. You want to get to the point! Provide information to your clients that’s of value and going to help them in some way. Let’s be real, when it comes to marketing and showing up online, we only want to do what’s absolutely necessary!
This is hugely beneficial for your business for two reasons:
- You’re attracting your ideal clients!
- You’re not wasting time, aka energy,
Attracting your ideal clients
Narrow in with your marketing efforts and your online presence to focus on the value your services provide. When you do this you are attracting people who are actually interested in what you have to offer.
You’re not wasting time, aka energy
When you avoid showing up online for the sake of “showing up online” you become more intentional. You’re more intentional with your time and the content you create. Coming to terms and understanding introvert behaviour makes you realize you do not need to share your day to day online.
I do believe it’s important to build a strong personal brand these days but that doesn’t mean you have to share your whole life online. You can consistently show up and stick to sharing information about your business only.
6. Patience and sustainable growth
I’ll be real, having patience to grow your business is hard! But the fact that you are creating content that truly provides value to your audience will help you build that patience.
Business for introverts does not need to be flashy. You don’t care to show people what you’re up to and how successful you are becoming. Although, that is nice! Of course you want recognition for the work you are doing. But in a quiet and proud way instead of in your face, look what I bought, way. Because let’s be real, we don’t want the attention but we do love the acknowledgement of our success!
The fact that we don’t need to show off as we build gives us this beautiful space to create without judgment or expectation. When you create content to market your business you are doing it because you want to help people. You’re providing value and that on its own feels like success.
You’re here to grow a business that lasts! Not one that looks amazing on the outside but might not be able to survive for years to come. You’re building something meaningful, of real value and that takes time!
7. Ability to see the big picture and strategize
The benefit of not wanting to jump in and fill every moment of silence? You have the ability to sit back and observe. You’re okay with staying in silence so you can truly create space to think! This gives you the opportunity to dream and see things in different ways. It’s almost like looking down and seeing an overview of everything going on in your business. This gives you the ability to see the big picture!
As mentioned before, you are great at deep focus and concentration. Meaning when you are able to see the big picture you can sit down and really strategize to achieve those big goals. This is helpful to do in your own business, or depending on what you do, help your clients grow.
8. Space to explore creativity and innovation
Everything we have talked about so far leads us to this last advantage for introverts in business. We talked about creating more time for yourself because you’re being more intentional with your time. We also just touched on how you are able to see the big picture. Combining these two things is the recipe for creativity and innovation!
Time and space + the ability to see the big picture = creativity and innovation
When you create space for yourself to dream you are able to try new things. The more you try new things the more creative you become. It’s like the gift that keeps on giving!
Take that time you have created in your schedule by reducing tasks that don’t serve you or your audience. Use it to play, create and innovate!
If these resonated with you, I would love to know which one resonated most! Or if you have anything to add please feel free!
