Why This Feels So Hard For Introverts To Show Up Online

  • Many introverts equate visibility with being loud, performative, or having to consistently be “on”. And that feels scary to your nervous system!
  • There’s often a voice inside that says, “What if people judge me?” or “I’m not enough”
  • You may have tried to “push through” before, only to feel burnt out or overwhelmed

But here’s the key: you don’t have to force extroversion to be visible. You can show up in ways that feel safe, sustainable, and true to you.

I have been able to fake it and show up on socials through Lives or Reels. You might not even notice that I’m actually not an extrovert, I’m very much introverted. But even if I’m able to create content it comes with a cost, I would always feel so exhausted and burnt out. I wouldn’t want to talk to anyone after spending time creating this type of content. Over top of that I was so afraid to actually share my story. I could show up and talk about strategies or things I’d learned. But to be me and share who I am and my personal story… that felt scary! That was out of my introvert comfort zone!

What “Getting Past the Fear” Actually Means

This isn’t about becoming someone you’re not. It’s about:

  1. Redefining what “visibility” means for you
  2. Building confidence through small experiments
  3. Using structure, boundaries, and self-compassion
  4. Scaling your visibility from quiet to bolder over time

How to Get Past the Fear of Putting Yourself Out There: A Step-by-Step Guide

Here’s a 6-step process you can follow. Use it as a roadmap, go slow if needed, adapt to your energy, and reflect at each stage.

  1. Clarify Why You Want to Be Seen
    • What’s the deeper purpose (impact, legacy, helping others, connection)?
    • Write down your “why” to anchor you when fear creeps up.
  2. Reframe What “Risk” Means
    • The fear won’t disappear, but you will learn to hold it differently
    • Think of visibility as “sharing” rather than “exposing”
    • Recognize that everyone is editing their public image (yes, even extroverts!)
  3. Design Micro Visibility Experiments
    • Start with the smallest possible action (e.g. posting a quote on Pinterest, publishing a blog post, sending an email to your subscribers.)
    • Set boundaries (time blocking, space to create, etc.) so it feels safe
    • Track your personal results (your reactions, feelings, what surprised you)
  4. Build Confidence Through Structure & Rituals
    • Create a visibility habit (e.g. “I will share one thing, through one channel every Monday”)
    • Use templates, outlines, or frameworks to reduce decision fatigue
    • Pre-write or batch content so you don’t always create under pressure
  5. Use Support & Accountability
    • Share with a friend, a biz bestie or accountability partner
    • Consider a small group or community where you practice showing up and networking
    • Use external cues (calendar reminders, journal check-ins)
  6. Gradually Expand Your Comfort Zone
    • Once micro experiments feel okay, try a bigger step (e.g. host a mini workshop, go live, create a talking head reel)
    • Reflect on what parts felt okay and what still felt hard
    • Analyze and adjust. The goal is consistency and building confidence over-time, not going all in right away.
