How my blog supports my cozy business and lifestyle

Candle and magazines on the bed

Building a lifestyle business that’s in alignment with who you are is the ultimate dream come true!

And the only way to make this happen is by getting real with yourself. These days we are bombarded with new trends, what feels like daily! It’s hard not to get shiny object syndrome and listen to what Nancy on IG said worked for her!

I don’t know about you but if I had a nickel for every time I tried a “digital marketing strategy” because someone on IG or Tik Tok told me it made them $10k/month; I’d be making $10k/month!

But the truth is, the strategies that worked for them won’t necessarily work for me or you. We have to find what truly aligns with our personalities and lifestyle. I can’t expect to keep up with someone who is consistently showing up on Instagram because TBH I would burn out faster than a cheap candle!

I had to shut out the noise and find what actually works for me. What I truly enjoy! And if you are reading this, I have a feeling you’re a lot like me and might just feel the same way.

I truly enjoy:

  • Slow mornings: waking up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee, sitting on my chair and looking out  the window, watching the cars and the birds in the sky.
  • Reading a mystery novel while I’m cuddled up on the couch with something warm to drink.
  • Yoga and pilates
  • Going for walks and taking in the fresh air and again looking at the birds and the sky!
  • Watching movies: horror, thriller + romcoms
  • Getting Starbucks to browse and window shop at Indigo (the Canadian version of Barnes and Noble). Let’s be real, I’m leaving with a pretty planner or notebook to add to my collection at home.
  • Going to a cute cafe to work or read a book

Based on all of these things I mentioned, I’m sure you can tell that I live a pretty cozy lifestyle. And when it finally clicked that I want a cozy business to go along with my cozy lifestyle, I got really excited about digital marketing!

Because a true lifestyle business should add to how you’re already living, not take away from it!

So how exactly does my Blog support my cozy business and lifestyle?

Well let’s first touch on, what exactly is a lifestyle business:

“A lifestyle business allows its founder to maintain their desired lifestyle. It’s a business that requires minimal effort (once established) to keep running and provides a high level of freedom.

A lifestyle business brings in regular income that the founder wants to sustain. It can be an online or offline business. Many lifestyle businesses receive passive income.”

Ok, so now you know that having an aligned business and marketing strategy isn’t just something you desire, it’s a real thing! So there’s no excuse for you to run your business in a way that doesn’t feel authentic to who you are!

Here are the ways my blog supports my lifestyle:

Introvert friendly marketing

So you know I like to do things in a cozy way! And that’s exactly how I get to write my blog posts. I will either cuddle up on my couch or in my bed with a blanket, pour a cup of coffee and sit down to write. Or some days I’ll head to a cute coffee shop and sit near the window so I can look outside and get inspired!

I really enjoy writing, some people don’t and that’s okay! If you don’t love writing, I would suggest two things:

  • Just try it, you might be surprised
  • Say it out loud! Open up a Google Doc, select Tools and then Voice Typing. And just say what you want to say on your blog. It will all be typed out for you and then you can go back in and edit!

When I’m writing a blog post, I get to share my personality but also a lot of valuable content! And you know what Google loves? Valuable content! It’s what it wants to show users when they make a search query. So not only am I getting to be home, cozy and write my blog, I’m also giving Google what it wants. Aka I’m being strategic with my content!

You don’t want to write just to write, you want to write for your audience. Your blog posts should be backed with SEO data. I’m not going to go into the nitty gritty of SEO in this post as it’s a lot to cover! But you can read about it here: Blogging for your business: How to use SEO to grow your business

Live a true introvert lifestyle

One thing about being an introvert that really affects me is my energy easily getting drained! When I make too many commitments (on the days I feel more extroverted) I burn out! I get so exhausted that I just want to shut down and hide in my cozy corner at home! But the thing is, to have a sustainable business you need to be consistent with your marketing. And this is exactly why I love blogging!

I can comfortably write my blog posts with no pressure of having to communicate with anyone while writing them! I don’t have to consistently show up on my stories showing people what I’ve been up to! Because how many times can I show that I’m drinking coffee and looking up at the beautiful sky!? I am self aware enough to know that’s not very exciting for people to watch…

Your blog posts will live on!

Continuing with the energy thing, if our energy (yes, you and I are one in the same now) can easily get depleted we want to make sure our efforts give us the most ROI. Return on Investment my friend, we want our content to live on, long-term, no dying within 42 hours!

Yes it might take longer to write a blog post, especially a good high value post that will actually help your audience. But knowing that it will actually continue to bring traffic to your website for months, even years to come makes it worth it!

You want the content that you are creating to continue to work for you for as long as possible! And blog posts are one of the longest living pieces of content you can create on the internet. Is that a fact? Maybe not in those words… However, IG posts die after approx. 48 hours and your blog post can live on for 4+ months. So I’m running with that bold claim!

The downside of blogging

Now, what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t share the downside! Blogging is an amazing marketing strategy! But every marketing strategy has its downside..

Blogging takes time

It can take anywhere from 6-12 months for your website or blog posts to start ranking in Search Results. You have to build up trust with Google (and other search engines) for them to start showing your content and this takes time. You will need to consistently post and make sure you are writing valuable content that your audience is searching for. And when Google does serve up your post and  someone clicks on it, you want to feel confident that you’re answering their questions. The longer someone stays on your website the more trust it’s going to build by showing Google that you’re giving the user what they’re looking for.

Your investment to have a successful blog

Want to hear some really good news? Creating blog posts is FREE! Yay!!

Although it does take time, I love writing and I feel like I do it pretty fast, even then I put aside 3 -4 hours aside for each blog post. The more research I need to do for a post the longer it will take me. So you do need to make a time investment. But like I said, your posts will have a longer lifespan so I personally think it’s time well spent!

So creating the content is free but there is a bit of a financial investment! Of course you have to have a live website where you can host your blog. If you’re investing in a website designer then you will have that investment plus your monthly website + blog hosting fees. And if you are serious about blogging for your business then I highly recommend investing in an SEO strategy for your website and blog!

Can you have a blog without investing in SEO? Yes. Do I recommend it? No. Why, you might ask… Because you don’t want to spend your time creating content that no one is searching for. It’s actually quite interesting doing SEO keyword research because what you think your audience is searching might not be accurate. People search for all kinds of things in different ways. SEO keyword research allows us to gather data about your target audience and actually see what they’re searching for. This way you can answer their questions and drive traffic to your website!
