1. What is a CEO Day (and what it’s not!)?

A CEO Day is a day you have blocked off for some time to yourself! It’s a day to get away from the noise and day to day tasks in your business. This means; no client work, no client communication, no social media marketing, nada! This day is strictly blocked off for time with yourself, the CEO!

I’m sure every entrepreneur has their own purpose when they block off CEO time. And overtime you will learn what you want to focus on during these days. To be honest, it’s probably going to change depending on what you’re working on around that time!

You might have a CEO Day that’s filled with strategy or a day filled with creativity and brainstorming. There’s no right or wrong definition of a CEO Day. But one thing that it is for sure, is a distraction free day to gain clarity and get creative. They’re a time to connect back to your purpose and the why behind your business. To reflect and recharge!

2. Why every entrepreneur should have a quiet CEO Day

It’s important for every entrepreneur to schedule CEO time. You might not need to do this every week but even if you do it once a month; it’s a great time to connect back to your business. Oftentimes we are so busy working in our business we forget to work on our business!

  • Working in your business: this is when you are working on the day to day tasks to run your business. It’s the client work, the admin work, the marketing, etc.
  • Working on your business: this is when you are taking time to work on the big picture tasks. The vision and strategies for long-term growth.

In order to plant seeds to grow your business you need a strategy. You don’t need to be locked in to one specific strategy forever but you need to have some sort of direction. When you set time aside to work on your business; you give yourself time to dream. Dream about what you want from and for your business. Get clarity on what it’s going to take to get there and how you can make it happen!

Since we can get so caught up working in our businesses, these CEO Days allow us time to work on our businesses! Your CEO Days are yours! You can plan them however you want. This might be to map our your next sales funnel or it might be to get creative and play. As adults we forget how important play can be. However you spend it, creating that intentional space will allow you to get that much needed clarity and remind yourself of your why!

3. The benefits of having a CEO Day

  • Mental Clarity
  • Nervous System Regulation
  • Realignment
  • Space and time for creative flow
  • Reconnect to your why

Mental Clarity

It’s hard to see things clearly when you are surrounded by noise. Even if you love working with your clients and doing all the things; you can’t deny that it is a distraction from your bigger vision. Giving yourself that time to detach from the day to day tasks creates room for white space. This will help you listen to your intuition and make better decisions.

Nervous System Regulation

Imagine slowing down and just giving yourself some room to breathe! Seriously, take a moment and take a deep breath and slowly let it out! Doesn’t it feel so good! We get so busy and caught up in work that we forget to take time for ourselves. Not only are CEO Days time to focus on your business but it’s also time for you to re-center yourself. Allow your mind and body to slow down and regulate your nervous system. This rest is going to support creativity, motivation and productivity in the long-run!

Realignment

Carving out this CEO Day will give you time to zoom out and reflect on where you are at. It’s easy to get distracted from our big picture goals when we’re in the weeds. Reflect back on your daily tasks, your client work, everything you are currently doing. Then think about your big goal. Is everything you’re doing now going to help you get to where you want to be? Or do you need to make modifications and readjust so you can work towards achieving your goals

Space and time for creative flow

Have you ever felt blocked when you’re trying to create? I have heard people say they’re not creative. And I truly believe we are all creative in different ways. But creativity only flows when you give yourself freedom. You need time and white space to allow yourself time to create. Creative flow comes from doing. I highly doubt anyone just woke up one day – without ever creating – and just made a masterpiece. We all try, fail and pick back up – that’s when creativity flows. And we really need that space in order to have the freedom to create.

Reconnect to your why

This is one of the biggest benefits of a CEO Day. Remembering why you started your business in the first place. How you want to help people and what kind of business and life you want to create.

Your why might change over time but it’s important to take time to remember it. It helps light that fire again and bring that energy back to your work!

4. How to schedule, prepare and stay consistent with your CEO Day

Everyone is different so the amount of CEO Days you need will vary. It can also depend on what season of business you are in. You might need more when you are preparing for a launch and might need less when you’re focused on client work.

First decide how often you want to schedule a CEO Day in your calendar. Remember, this is a day where you will have no distractions! Meaning no calls scheduled, no client work – not even brunch with the girls! I would even go as far as saying, this should be a day where you put your phone on do not disturb.

Block off your CEO Days in your calendar to stay consistent. Maybe plan them at the beginning of the month if you’re doing it weekly. Or plan them quarterly, whatever works for you! The point is to have the time blocked off in your calendar. And let your friends, family and team members know that you will be taking time to work on your business and will not be reachable unless it’s an emergency!

Then prepare for your CEO Day to make it feel as cozy and calming as possible! Remember, this is a great time to recenter. Decide whether you want to work from home or go to a cozy cafe. Make it a place where you will have the least amount of distractions or a setting in which you thrive in concentrating.

Here are some things you can do to plan a cozy and productive day:

  • Make your favorite warm drink
  • Light a candle or incense
  • Cozy up your space
  • Add a blanket, wear your comfiest clothes, open a window, or put on fuzzy socks.
  • Play soft background music
  • Grab your journal and a pen you love
  • Keep your phone on Do Not Disturb
  • Set up a yoga mat where you can sit and reset when needed!

5. What to focus on during your CEO Day

Your CEO Day is time for yourself. Time for you to reconnect with your business, the big picture vision and your goals. It’s time you have set aside to use however you want to. And you don’t have to use every CEO Day to focus on the things I just listed. It might serve you more to use that day to catch up on tasks you haven’t had time to do. I know I spent this entire time talking about working on your business during CEO Days and not in. But if you are scheduling weekly CEO Days, you might want to use one here and there to get caught up.

It’s important to give yourself permission to focus on whatever your business and you need at that time.

Here are things you might do with your CEO time:

  • Revisit your bigger vision and long-term goals
  • Reflect on your current offers
  • Realign your offers and services if needed
  • Brainstorm new offers
  • Refine your marketing and content strategy
  • Plan your content and sales calendar
  • Check in on how you’re spending your time and energy

You might even want to use this time to reset your mind and body. Use this day to journal, exercise, stretch and do yoga. Sometimes working on ourselves is just as valuable as working on our businesses! Remember, a CEO Day isn’t about crossing things off a list. It’s about reconnecting to your purpose, your peace and your vision.
