In this post I am sharing a custom coaching website I designed for my client who is a professional development coach.
My client, Dr. Guadalupe (Lupe) Hernandez, is a career and professional development coach. She works both with individuals and organizations. Her business is Playscriptive and her goal is to help professionals live joyfully while advancing in their careers. She believes in achieving work life balance and this was something we really wanted to represent in her website.
She infuses play and fun into her coaching strategy. It was really important for her to have a website that felt like her ideal clients were walking through virtual doors and right into her business. She wanted them to feel joy and hopeful when they landed on her website.
Websites for coaches can feel generic sometimes so I designed a fully custom design for her.
I do have website templates for life coaches which can be completely customized for your business. But depending on your services and how unique you want your design to be, a custom coaching website might be the best way to go! My process to design and develop custom website for coaches
Step One: SEO Strategy
The first thing I do when a client in both website design and SEO is do SEO research! This looks like:
- Sending client an SEO questionnaire
- Client fills out questionnaire
- I use those answers to do extensive keyword research and competitor analysis
- Then I use the data from that research to determine what keywords we should target on each page. This is extremely important to make sure we are targeting keywords that have a high search volume but also a low difficulty. This makes it possible for my clients to realistically rank in search results!
- I review the research with my client on a strategy call. We look at it together to make sure it feels aligned with their business and message.
Client homework
From there my client takes the research and writes their coaching website copy using the keywords I have picked for them. I teach you exactly how to do this; where to use the keywords etc.
The client homework includes providing me with:
- All of the images needed for career coaching websites
- Sharing their business branding. Including colour palette, font pairing, logo and illustrations/graphics
- Writing all of the website copy
I do provide website copywriting guides to help you write all of the website content. Or you can choose to hire a copywriter.
Design and develop the coaches website
For a custom website this is a two week design period. We kick off the design period with a call to review all of the website content provided by my client. This gave my client the opportunity to share any specific instructions or anything else they wanted to touch on. It’s a good time for me to get final instructions on functionality as well!
From there I designed the Homepage for my client Lupe who is a professional development coach. She was super happy with it and didn’t have very many revisions. She did want to update some of her copy so she provided those instructions. I implemented those changes and started designing the rest of the pages as she had approved the Homepage design.
By the beginning of the second week I had sent over all of the pages for approval. Again, she was super happy and didn’t have any design changes. However, she did want to swap out a couple of images and copy. Once she sent those edits, I got right to making those updates.
From there I was able to finalize the design and development by the end of week two! On that Friday we had our launch and lesson call. This is where I hand over the live website and teach my client how to make updates. This way you can make edits and update as needed without hiring me to update, unless you want to!
