1. Why Motivation Fades and How to Rebuild It
At the start of a new year, we often get a spark of motivation. It feels like a fresh year full of possibilities where you get to start from a blank canvas. It’s such a great feeling and one I think we should try and keep all year around!
The beginning of a new year feels like a special time where most people are making new years resolutions. We are talking about our goals, what we want to do and how we are going to make this year different than the last. It’s a collective energy that makes us feel optimistic and motivated. But you can bring this motivation into your entire year if you choose to!
Here’s the truth: motivation isn’t something you find, it’s something you create.

Your mindset determines whether that spark turns into a flame or fizzles out.
When you build a strong mind, you’re not chasing motivation, you’re creating a belief that supports it.
Unfortunately, expecting to be consistently motivated isn’t realistic. There will be times when you feel overwhelmed, when you’re not feeling well or when you’re distracted for any reason at all; because life happens!
It’s important for you to remember that this is normal! Every person you see who is successful or shows up consistently, hasn’t just naturally been motivated every single day. Instead they choose to keep moving forward even when that motivation fades. And that’s a decision you get to make for yourself!
There will be days when you just need to get started and that motivation will build off of that!
2. Define What “Success” Looks Like for You
The new year invites reflection, but instead of asking “What should I achieve?” ask yourself: “what does success actually feel like for me this year?”
This seems like such a simple question but it can bring some big visions to life for you. Take some time to journal on it and see what comes up.
It’s really easy to get distracted by other people’s goals and expectations in the New Year. Everyone is sharing what they want to do and how they want their year to look like. This isn’t a bad thing, it’s so cool to be able to support each other when we’re all wanting to make positive changes. However, it’s important to separate your goals and desires from those that others have. Don’t let anyone else’s vision distract you from what you want your year to look like!
Everyone’s version of success looks different.
For some, it’s a 6-figure business. For others, it’s freedom, balance, or creative fulfillment. What matters is aligning your definition of success with your values and desires; not the trends or what others are doing online.

In 2026 success for me looks like living in alignment. Throughout 2025 I felt more and more pulled towards letting go of things that didn’t serve me. It didn’t feel as intentional as it did necessary. And I’m referring to stuff specifically related to business.
I let go of wanting to keep up with other people and their versions of success. Stopped showing up online in a way that didn’t feel aligned (this was a hard one and I did go back and forth a bit in 2025). I also became much more strict with my boundaries and tightened up my services so I wasn’t over delivering.
My goal for 2026 is to really step into this alignment.
Success for me looks like creating content and building my community in ways that I enjoy. It looks like working with clients who have online businesses that I truly believe I can support. And spending time with my family and loved ones while building memories out in nature!
I also want to focus on my health and fitness aside from just business success! For me, that looks like going to the gym and doing yoga regularly. Continuing to meditate in the mornings and do daily stretches!
I wrote a blog post to walk you through how to build a 2026 vision board that aligns with your success aesthetic.
Your success aesthetic might look like a minimalist workspace, a cozy morning ritual, or a visual reminder of your goals, like a digital mindset wallpaper or motivational wallpapers on your desktop or printed and put up on your wall! 3. Build a Motivation Ritual You’ll Actually Stick To
To stay consistent, you need more than goals; you need rituals that nurture your mindset and energy.
Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to create your daily motivation ritual:
Step 1: Start with a motivational quote.
Find a quote that grounds you. Add it to your mindset wallpaper, journal, or phone background. Something that reminds you of how you want to feel throughout the year when you look at it. Currently, my motivational wallpapers on my devices simply says “It’s already yours”. I really like it because it’s simple and quickly reminds me to live as if!
Step 2: Reconnect with your “why.”
Each morning, remind yourself why your goals matter. Write it down, say it out loud, or visualize it.
I actually wrote myself a short letter about my why and what I want to focus on as well as what I want to let go. It’s a great little reminder reference and I encourage you to do the same! If you do write your own letter, share it with me! I would love to hear it, encourage you and it’s a great way for you to put it out there beyond yourself! Send it to my email info@designedbyharj.com and let me cheer you on!
Step 3: Take one aligned action daily.
Big goals feel easier when broken into micro-actions. The key is showing up, even when motivation is low.
I find it’s always helpful to review and update my planner at the beginning of the week. This way you can plan to take actionable steps that are aligned with your success goals!
Step 4: Celebrate the process, not just the outcome.
A strong mind focuses on progress, not perfection. Acknowledge your wins, big and small! Remember that some days you will feel more accomplished than others. Some days might feel harder than others.
But even the smallest step towards your goals is getting you a little closer. Keep going and enjoy the process! Because there are so many wins along the way!
4. When Motivation Feels Low; Reconnect, Don’t Quit
Even the most motivated people hit slumps. What matters isn’t avoiding them, but how quickly you bounce back.
Ask yourself:
- What’s draining my energy right now?
- What usually helps me reset?
- Who or what reminds me of my why?
Sometimes all it takes is refreshing your environment. This can be with a new mindset wallpaper, a clean workspace, or simply going to a cafe to switch up your scenery.
Honestly, for me getting outside and working at a cafe makes a huge difference!

5. Keep Your Vision in Front of You (Literally)
If you want to stay motivated all year, surround yourself with reminders of your goals.
Try this:
- Save a motivational quote as your phone lock screen.
- Create a success aesthetic Pinterest board.
- Save your motivation Pinterest board as your desktop background
- Print out your 2026 vision board and put it up on your wall!
Always keep your goals top of mind!
These visual connections rewire your brain to focus on what’s possible, not what’s missing.
TL;DR (Recap: How to Stay Motivated All Year)
Here’s your motivation reset plan for the new year:
- Define what success means to you, and make it feel aligned.
- Build a daily motivation ritual with visual reminders (mindset wallpaper, motivational quote).
- Focus on progress and micro-actions that move you forward.
- Refresh your space and digital environment to support your mindset.
- Surround yourself with your success aesthetic, visuals that remind you of your growth.
