Can You Be a Successful Entrepreneur If You’re an Introvert?

In this post we are going to chat about how you can be a successful entrepreneur as an Introvert!

I have a quick question for you! Do you ever feel overwhelmed and discouraged because you’re not someone who’s constantly “on” and it doesn’t feel natural for you to show up online day after day?

I used to have days where I felt truly defeated as an introvert because I couldn’t keep up with the extrovert energy. I literally remember saying to myself “if I could just have more energy to work longer and do more I would be so much more successful!”. If I could go back I would shake myself and say that’s not true! And you definitely should not strive to be overworking in order to achieve success! And today, if you’ve ever been in my shoes and wondered the same thing, I hope you feel that message!

To be a successful entrepreneur you don’t need to be the loudest to get the most attention or any other myth you might believe! Introvert entrepreneurs in business can have just as much success!

So let’s chat about the fact that introverts can absolutely succeed in business. And how you can build a business that aligns with your true self!

But first let’s touch on this common misconception

As a society we have seen it all on social media! We have seen the rise of influencers, companies grow their businesses to make millions of dollars, and so much more! With that came a common misconception that Instagram and TikTok are the only way to grow your business online. But that’s just not true! The internet is a vast place and there are so many opportunities we don’t always think about…

I do believe that these social media platforms are a great way to grow your business. But I do not believe they are the only way to grow your business. You can definitely use these tools even as an introvert for your business. What I’m saying is that you can add a strategy that feels right to you or just focus on a strategy outside of social media.

I personally use IG, I do get clients from there but as an introvert it’s just not where I want to spend my time. So I use it in a way that feels good to me. AKA I don’t show up on stories daily, I don’t follow trends or dance to reels. But I do post my work because I’m proud of it and it supports my clients. I post because I want to; not because I have to.

Now let’s talk about what you’re really here for!

The strengths of introverted successful entrepreneurs!

You can really take advantage of the fact that you have a quiet personality. Instead of having to fill the space with conversation you can focus on deep thinking and intentional decision-making!

Being okay with sitting in silence for a moment or two allows your clients to take the time they need to convey what’s on their mind. They have time to finish their thoughts and reflect to see if they want to add more. This is the power of not filling the space with conversation; it makes your conversations intentional. You’re giving your clients the freedom to speak and you’re using your introverted listening skills to pick up on all the little details they’re sharing!

Introverts are also empaths which makes you perfect for coaching or any type of healing or service-based business.

Relationship building

They say it’s easier to sell to an existing customer than to continuously find new customers. Having the ability to build long-term, meaningful relationships really helps with this. And it will also feel good to your nervous system to work with existing customers. Think about it, you already know what your client is like, you’re not going into every situation not knowing what that client experience will be like. It really does make a difference in the day to day of your work if you are working closely with your clients.

Creating powerful content that resonates with your audience

This kind of goes back to the fact that you are such a good listener. You get to know your people, and when you know them, you can speak to them. Similar to having intentional conversations you’re creating intentional content.

Whether you are creating content on social media, like IG or TikTok, or you’re creating long form content, like Blogging or YouTube, it’s catered to your ideal audience. And yes, everyone aims to cater their content to their audience! But you’re able to connect on a deep level. As an introvert you might not want to dance or follow all of the trends. So what’s left, sharing information your clients are looking for and connecting with!

So how do you build a business that aligns with your introverted personality?

What’s one thing that we want more of as introverts? Time! My gosh, we want more time so we can do all of the things that recharge our batteries since we run out of our social battery so quickly.

Whatever you do with that time is up to you! Maybe you want to read a book, go for a walk, work out or hang out with family. Whatever it is, you need to make time to recharge your batteries my friend.

In order to recharge your social batteries you need to embrace sustainable strategies for your business!

Whatever strategy you’re using to create content in your business is totally up to you. I recommend it’s something that you enjoy doing. If you’re looking to have a business long term then you know you’re going to be creating content long-term!

When you’re choosing a sustainable strategy for your business it’s important to think about ROI. The Return On Investment. How long is this content going to perform for you in comparison to the time it took to create it.

Here are some strategies you can look into:

  • Blogging and SEO
  • Pinterest
  • YouTube
  • Email Marketing
  • Podcasting

These are all what you call long form content. With long form content you can provide a lot more detail and really answer a question fully within that one piece of content.

Along with whichever one of these strategies you pick I do believe you should have a website that’s working for you 24/7. When someone finds you through content you’ve created, wherever that may be, you can link back to your website so they can continue their relationship with you and your business. Having a website also legitimizes entrepreneurs in business.

Successful entrepreneurs need to protect their energy!

I highly recommend creating boundaries and being as strict as you can with them. This is with your clients but also in your personal life. It’s just as important to give yourself time to rest and be strict with that boundary as it is to schedule time to work.

Let’s get practical! Here are some actionable tips for introverts in business

These are just some things that can help you align with your introverted personality in business. Take what works for you and leave what doesn’t. I honestly think that a big part of being a successful entrepreneur is doing what feels right for you.

  1. Pick and commit to a sustainable marketing strategy
  2. Plan out your content to avoid overwhelm and burnout
  3. Schedule time to create intentional content that provides long-term ROI
  4. Use your website as an online home for your business to connect further with potential clients
  5. Use automations and workflows to reduce your workload.

Conclusion for successful entrepreneurs who are introverted!

You can rest easy knowing that being exactly who you are is so powerful. I’ve had imposter syndrome in business before trying to be someone I’m not. I don’t want that for you!
