Why I Started Using AI-Assisted Blog Writing

As a solopreneur (I’m sure you can relate) it takes a lot of time to not only “do the work” in my business but also market and attract clients. I actually love writing my blog posts; it’s my favourite way to create content. But no matter how much I enjoy it, it does take a lot of time and energy. I don’t even consider myself a writer but event writers get ‘writers block’, so of course that was a struggle too!

I’m not going to lie, using AI to help me with my blog posts was something I resisted for a long time. However, once I started using it to brainstorm ideas and help optimize my posts, I realized how valuable it is!

I do want to mention though, there is a fine line between having AI help with your blog posts vs having AI write your blog posts. You don’t want AI to actually write your blog posts – you just want it to help you with the writing process!

This shift made using AI for blogging sustainable instead of overwhelming.

Who This AI Content Workflow for Bloggers Is For

This approach will work really well if you:

  • Want long-term traffic without relying on social media
  • Are an introverted or thoughtful writer who needs clarity before writing
  • Are curious about AI blogging for beginners, but don’t want shortcuts that hurt SEO

Step 1: Start With Strategy (Before You Open Any AI Tool)

This is the step most people skip (and why AI-generated content often falls flat)

You don’t want to rely on AI to do all of the thinking for you. You should have a blog strategy in place before using AI tools for blog writing.

Here are the things you should have in place first:

  • Topics you want to write about (related to your business and what your clients will be interested in)
  • Determine what type of content your clients are already searching
  • Do your own SEO keyword research
  • Determine the search intent for each blog post (informational vs actionable)
  • One clear question you are answering in full for your ideal client.

This way you aren’t relying on AI to determine the type of content you should create. You are already doing your own research and finding out what type of content your clients are already searching for.

Step 2: Use AI to Create a Clean, SEO-Friendly Outline

This is where AI prompts for blog writing save the most time. I use specific AI blog prompts that I have refined over-time to produce a first draft of my blog post.

ChatGPT creates a draft for me which includes:

  • Proper blog structure optimized for SEO + AEO
  • Creates an outline with topics to write about
  • Adds the SEO keywords I provide to the draft
  • Gives me ideas of what type of images to add throughout the post
  • Provides examples of external and internal links

All of this is produced exactly how I want it based on the prompts I have created. For me, it’s perfect because it gets my creative juices flowing! I don’t have to start writing from a blank page.

Step 3: Use AI as a Strategic Draft, Not the Final Version

This is an important distinction I want to make.

Even though ChatGPT helps me create an outline and a first draft, I’m not copy-and-pasting it exactly as it is. I work off the draft it has created!

I use this draft and outline as a:

  • Guideline, not the final post
  • Way to see how ideas can be organized
  • Structure that’s already optimized for SEO and AI Search

This is one of the biggest reasons my AI blog writing workflow feels like I’m still creating my own content and not just publishing AI written posts.

Here’s What I Keep vs. What I Change

I usually keep the structure because AI does a great job at:

  • Creating logical sections
  • Improving scannability
  • Supporting an AI Search and SEO-friendly layout

But I go through every single paragraph and:

  • Rewrite it in my own words
  • Adjust the steps or points to match how I actually do things
  • Add personal stories, examples, and real experiences
  • Remove anything that sounds generic or doesn’t feel aligned

This is how AI-assisted blog writing can be used as a support system instead of a crutch!

Why This Works (and Still Supports SEO)

By keeping the structure but rewriting the content, I get the best of both worlds:

  • A blog post that’s optimized for AI for blog writing and search engines
  • Content that still sounds human, thoughtful, and personal

Search engines and AI search tools are looking for clarity and valuable content, not whether an AI tool was used or not. This approach ensures the post reflects my voice, my experience, and my perspective, while still benefiting from a strong SEO and AEO foundation.

Step 4: Optimize for SEO After I Write the Final Draft

Don’t get me wrong, the content of your final draft should already be optimized for SEO. Meaning, you should have SEO keywords in your headers and paragraph copy with proper structure to your post.

However, to come up with your URL, Page Title, Description, etc. this I do as a last step before publishing the post. This is because now I can easily plug in the blog post I wrote into ChatGPT and get it to use my own words to create these.

I do have very specific AI Prompts I use for this part of the process as well, which you can get in the AI Blog Writing Prompts guide I shared earlier in this post! Scroll up and be sure to grab it if you didn’t already, it’s FREE!

Step 5: Build a Repeatable AI Blogging System

Consistency doesn’t come from motivation, it comes from systems.

My AI blogging system includes:

  • Reusable AI prompts (that I have refined over time)
  • A 90-day blogging content calendar
  • Blog publishing checklist

This makes AI blogging for beginners feel approachable and sustainable.

Common Mistakes When Using AI for Blogging

Avoid these traps:

  • Publishing unedited AI drafts
  • Skipping strategy and search intent
  • Writing for algorithms instead of people

Remember: AI-assisted blog writing works best when you stay in control.

FAQs: AI for Blog Writing

Is AI-generated content bad for SEO?

It depends on how you use it! If you’re using AI to fully write your blog posts then yes it can be harmful for SEO. But if you are using it for assistance but adding your own perspective, experience and knowledge then it will not harm your SEO.

Can beginners really use AI to blog?

Yes. AI blogging for beginners works best with simple prompts and a clear structure. Just remember to use AI to help you outline and brainstorm vs actually write your content for you.

What AI tools do you recommend?

Any tool that helps with outlining, drafting, and refining works. The system matters more than the platform.

How do I keep my voice when using AI?

Always edit by adding your own voice, perspective, stories and experiences. Think of AI as a collaborator, not the author.

TL;DR Recap: My AI Blog Writing Process

Here’s the simplified version you can steal:

  1. Define your topic, audience, and intent
  2. Use AI to create an outline
  3. Write your blog using the outline for guidance
  4. Optimize for SEO after drafting
  5. Use a repeatable system to stay consistent

This is how I write blog posts faster with AI without burnout or overwhelm.
