The Essential Website Pages Every Business Needs (Simple Breakdown)

The problem was, I had no idea what my website needed to have on it. I knew it would help my business seem legit and would make my life easier by providing info, attracting and booking clients. But how can you even know what you need to put on your website if you’ve never built one before?

I hope this post helps answer that question for you!

What Are “Essential Website Pages”?

Essential website pages are the core pages every business website needs to clearly communicate what it does, who it helps, and how your visitors can take the next step.

A strong website structure isn’t about having more pages; it’s about having the right ones, organized in a way that supports clarity and conversion.

Why Your Website Pages Matter More Than You Think

Your website layout is more than just design; it’s how your audience experiences your brand and understands your services/offers.

The right website pages help you:

  • Build trust quickly
  • Guide visitors through your content
  • Support a high converting website
  • Improve your website optimization and SEO

Without a clear website content structure, even a beautiful site can feel confusing.

The Essential Website Pages Every Business Needs

Let’s break this down simply.

1. Homepage (Your First Impression)

Your homepage is the front door of your website.

It should clearly answer:

  • What you do
  • Who you help
  • How to work with you

Think of it as a guided starting point; not a place to say everything. I like to think of your Homepage as an introduction to all of the important pages on your website. This way when a visitor is scrolling your Homepage they can easily find what they’re looking for and click on a button that takes them to that specific page for more info.

Your Homepage should include:

  • A clear headline that answers: what you do, who you help and how they can work with you (so no one is left questioning if you’re right for them or what their next step should be)
  • A short intro that helps solidify you’re right for your ideal client
  • Services overview to introduce them to your offers
  • Short about intro so they can see the face behind the brand
  • Call-to-actions sprinkled throughout the page so your visitor is never left searching for how to take action

2. About Page (Build Connection + Trust)

Your About page helps visitors feel connected to you.

On a strong small business website, this page often plays a huge role in conversion.

Think about it, if your clients are booking with you directly as a service provider – it’s extremely important for them to get to know you and trust you. For personal brands like Coaches, Creatives and Online Service Providers this page is essential and a must have!

Your About Page should include:

  • Your story – Keep this brief and relevant! Break up your text with headlines and images to make it skimmable and easy to read.
  • Direct your story towards who you help so they can feel the connection with you.
  • This is the place to share your values or approach.
  • Add some fun elements here like a Timeline or a Quiz

3. Services Page (How You Help + What You Offer)

This is one of the most important business website pages.

It’s where your visitors can learn all of the details about working with you! List all of your offers, ways to work with you and details on this page.

Your Services page should clearly explain:

  • What your services are
  • Who your ideal client is (so they can feel like you’re speaking directly to them)
  • What the outcome is or the results they can expect

This is where your website strategy meets conversion! We’re taking your visitors from getting to know you to ready to book with you!

Your Services Page should include:

  • A break down of each of your services or ways to work with you
  • Clearly share what type of results they can expect
  • Simple pricing or next steps

4. Contact Page (Make It Easy to Take Action)

If someone is ready to work with you, your Contact page should feel simple; not overwhelming.

A good website setup removes friction here! Make it super easy for them to book with you whether that’s through a simple contact form or integrating a scheduler to book an appointment.

Your Contact Page should include:

  • A simple contact form (Avoid using too many form fields so it doesn’t deter them from filling it out and submitting the form).
  • Clearly state expectations so they know what to expect (state how long it will take for you to respond, ie. 48 hours, etc).
  • Optional to add your scheduler here so they can directly book with you.

It’s important to have a simple contact form even if you also have a scheduler integrated. Not everyone is going to be ready to book an appointment right away. They might just want to get in touch with you because they have a question. So make it really easy for them to do that if needed!

Here’s an example from my client Sharon Dials contact page.

5. Blog (Optional but Powerful for SEO)

A blog isn’t required, but it’s one of the best ways to support your website optimization and long-term organic growth to your website.

Your blog with help your website:

  • Show up in search results (AI and Traditional Search)
  • Build trust with your audience
  • Support your overall website content strategy

How to Structure Your Website (A Simple Framework)

Here’s a simple website structure for business you can follow:

  1. Homepage
  2. About
  3. Services
  4. Contact
  5. Blog (optional)

That’s it.

You don’t need a complicated website pages list; just a clear one.

Here are Some Common Mistakes to Avoid

When planning your website content, try to avoid:

  • Adding too many pages too soon
  • Overcomplicating your website layout
  • Hiding important information
  • Not guiding users with clear next steps

A simple, intentional website planning approach always wins.

And one thing I have learned from working with clients is this – keep your website outline and design simple! I know it can be exciting to see all of these different trends and motions and transitions on websites. But the ones that work the best for user readability and SEO/AEO optimization are simple and easy to navigate websites.

Don’t focus on trends, don’t try to make it super unique. Keep it simple and easy to navigate – those are the websites that perform the best!
