In this post, I’m sharing what it really looks like to build a business as a Projector Human Design type
Having your own business as a Projector type is honestly such a freeing feeling (if you do it right!). Especially having an online business where you can really honour your energy and work on your own terms!
From personal experience, I can say – running a business as a Projector can feel both exciting and overwhelming. We’re different from other Human Design types. Projectors are not meant to constantly hustle or operate with unlimited energy.
Instead, our strength lies in:
- guiding
- seeing the bigger picture
- helping others use their energy more efficiently
And once you really understand that? Everything starts to shift.
Disclaimer: I’m not formally trained in the human design system. Everything I’m sharing is based on my personal experience. Always explore and do your own research as needed.
What shifted for me when I discovered my projector human design type
I actually came across Human Design through a podcast episode from The Goal Digger Podcast where Jenna Kutcher interviewed Jenna Zoe.
I had heard people mention Human Design before but never really paid attention… until that episode.
After listening to that episode, I immediately looked up my type and found out I was a projector type human design… and honestly, I felt relieved.
It finally made sense why:
- I couldn’t keep up with others
- I felt drained trying to “stay consistent” online
- I kept comparing myself and falling short
I would try to show up like other entrepreneurs and try to keep up. But no matter how hard I tried, it just didn’t work for me!
And I would always end up:
- burnt out
- overwhelmed
- and feeling pretty sh*tty about myself
But learning about the projector design felt like a permission slip.
Permission to:
- be myself
- stop forcing what wasn’t working
- and build my business in a way that actually felt good
And that’s what I want this post to be for you too.

What is the projector human design type?
At a high level, the human design system is a framework that helps you understand:
- how your energy works
- how you make decisions
- and how you’re designed to move through life
There are five types:
- Manifestors
- Generators
- Manifesting Generators
- Projectors
- Reflectors
The human design type projector (and why it matters for your business)
The projector human design type makes up about 20% of the population.
Unlike other types:
- you’re not here to constantly produce
- you’re not meant to hustle
- and you don’t have unlimited energy
You’re here to guide others.
Our energy works best when we are recognized and invited, rather than trying to push or force our way into opportunities.
Before understanding this, I was trying to market like everyone else! Through:
- cold outreach
- constant posting
- trying to “stay visible”
Understanding that, as Projectors, we’re meant to attract opportunities rather than force them is the biggest takeaway I want you to have from this. It’s something I personally struggled with for a long time. I was trying to follow marketing strategies that were designed for other Human Design types; things like cold outreach through emails and DMs, or showing up daily on social media. And every time, it left me feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, and completely out of alignment with my energy.
When I realized I could market my business in a way that actually felt aligned (and that naturally attracted the right clients) it took so much pressure off. It also reassured me that the way I wanted to market my business was valid. I’ve always felt drawn to blogging and Pinterest, and deep down, I knew those were the strategies I wanted to focus on. But I would get pulled in different directions by shiny object syndrome, especially when seeing other energy types share their results on Instagram. I’d start to think I needed to do what they were doing… even though it never felt right for me.
Your energy as a projector human design type
As a projector type, your energy doesn’t work the same way as others.
You don’t have a consistent energy source, and doing more doesn’t refill it.
This was another huge aha moment for me. The reason I felt so burnt out trying to keep up?
It wasn’t because I wasn’t disciplined enough. It was because I was completely out of alignment with my energy.
As a projector type human design, you need:
- rest
- space
- time to recharge
The reason I was feeling so burnt out trying to keep up with other energy types was because it was so out of alignment with how Projectors energy works.
As Projector types we don’t have endless energy and it doesn’t get restored by doing more. We need to schedule time to rest, recover and rejuvenate. When we realize that rest is productive as a Projector – it really takes the guilt out of resting! You need to rest just as much as you need to work!

Why traditional business advice doesn’t work for the Projector type
We’ve all been taught the same thing. To work:
- A traditional 9–5
- 8 hours a day
- The more hours you work, the more you earn
I used to believe this too.
When I first started my business, I didn’t feel like I had worked enough unless I hit 8 hours.
I would literally sit there and stretch tasks out just to feel productive.
And it made me feel like:
- I was “deserving” of clients
- I was doing things the “right way”
But it’s so backwards.
Now I know: I can get more done in 4 focused hours than 8 unfocused ones.
What actually works for a projector human design type
Instead of hustle, focus on:
1. Depth over volume
Create content that actually helps people (blogging, SEO, long-form)
2. Attraction over chasing
Let your content bring the right people to you
3. Recognition over constant visibility
You don’t need to be everywhere
4. Rest as part of your strategy
Rest is not something you earn, it’s something you need
I wrote a post on how to protect your energy as a Projector if you want to read more about that, here you go: How to Protect Your Energy as a Projector (7 Simple Ways That Actually Work)
How to build a business as a Projector Human Design type
Here are the strategies that changed everything for me:
1. Create spaciousness in your schedule
As a Projector, your energy naturally ebbs and flows.
What has helped me most:
- not forcing a Monday–Friday structure
- working weekends when I feel inspired
- taking weekdays off when I need rest
- building flexibility into my calendar
Sometimes burnout comes without warning. So I’ve learned to leave space for rest in my calendar before I can reach that point!
2. Focus on recognition & invitations
This was a huge shift.
Instead of trying to constantly push or chase, I focus on:
- blogging
- SEO-driven content
I always knew I wanted those to be my main strategies.
But I kept getting distracted by shiny object syndrome; especially when I saw other people on Instagram talking about their results with social media.
I would think: “Maybe I need to do what they’re doing.”
Even though it never really felt right for me.
When I came back to blogging and Pinterest, everything felt calmer and more aligned.
3. Prioritize services that support your energy
For me, this became my VIP Design Day model.
Instead of long, draining projects, I now offer:
- strategy sessions
- VIP days
- streamlined website builds
It allows me to deliver high-quality work without burnout.
And it’s better for my clients too! They get a focused, high-energy transformation in one day.

4. Redefine productivity
This is probably the hardest shift.
We’re conditioned to believe: more work = more success
But as a human design type projector, that is not true.
Your value comes from:
- insight
- clarity
- perspective
- guidance
Not just from output.
How I run my business as a Projector type
Marketing (attracting instead of chasing)
I focus on:
- SEO blog posts (2 per week)
- email marketing
Every blog post is designed to:
- provide value
- bring in aligned readers
- and build trust over time
When someone joins my email list, I see that as an invitation.
Services (protecting my energy)
I created my services to work with my energy. It’s literally the reason I created my VIP Design Day services. And not to mention, my clients love them – so it’s a win, win!
My VIP Design Day process is simple:
- client books a day
- selects a template
- sends content via shared folder
- I design and launch their site in one day
It’s structured, calm, and sustainable for both me and my clients.
Common challenges as a projector type human design (and how to work through them)
Feeling unseen or overlooked
As a Projector type, it can sometimes feel like your work isn’t being noticed right away – especially in spaces that reward loud, constant visibility.
The shift here is understanding that your visibility is meant to be earned through recognition over time, not constant output.
Instead of trying to force attention through daily posting or high-volume content, focus on:
- showing up consistently with long-form content (like blogging, SEO, or YouTube)
- sharing your perspective in a way that compounds over time
- allowing people to find you when they’re ready, not when you’re constantly pushing
Your visibility builds slowly, but it builds deeply.
Burnout from trying to keep up
One of the most common struggles for a Projector is burnout from trying to match the pace of other energy types.
This often shows up when you:
- try to post every day
- say yes to too many projects
- follow strategies that require constant output
The solution isn’t pushing through; it’s restructuring how you work.
Instead:
- build rest into your schedule before burnout happens
- treat downtime as a non-negotiable part of your business model
- stop measuring your productivity by hours worked
For you, rest isn’t recovery from success – it’s what makes success sustainable in the first place.
Doubting your value because you’re not “doing enough”
This is one of the deepest mindset shifts for a us as Projectors.
Because so much of traditional business culture equates value with output, it’s easy to fall into the belief that you need to be constantly doing more to be worthy of success.
But your value doesn’t come from how much you produce. It comes from your:
- perspective
- ability to see things others miss
- guidance and clarity
Your strength is not in doing everything. it’s in seeing what actually matters and helping others move with more intention and ease.
The more you trust that, the less you’ll feel the need to prove yourself through overworking.
I’m also kind of sharing this for myself, because trust me friend – there have been more than enough occasions where I put my value in my output. I felt like I had to over deliver in order to earn clients. And of course, it’s important to over deliver in the sense of the value you provide. But it’s not equivalent to working more hours or providing more services than they paid for.
