When you think about digital marketing there are so many options and you should choose the one that works best for you. Meaning, you enjoy doing it and it’s going to attract your ideal clients. You want to figure out where your clients are hanging out and show up there. The reason I mention choosing a strategy that you enjoy is because it’s going to be a long road if you don’t!
With any marketing strategy consistency is key! And if you don’t genuinely enjoy the way you have to show up on a certain platform it’s going to be hard to stay consistent. The hard truth is, even if you choose a strategy you enjoy (like I chose blogging) it’s still going to be hard! But it won’t be as hard, and it won’t be hard every time you sit down to create!
I personally don’t love showing up all the time. And because of that social media marketing does stress me out! I have months I can have fun with it. Then other months where I don’t even want to post a story! This is a great example for not being able to stay consistent.

Blogging for marketing works for me because I don’t have to show up daily. I can write my posts before hand and set them to publish once a week. TBH, this doesn’t always happen and sometimes I have to scramble to write a last minute blog post! Which is not best practice, oops!
But even then, knowing that I just have to post a blog once a week it really takes the pressure off for me. And like I mentioned, sometimes I have had to quickly write a post. Doing that once in a while is okay but for the most part you should have a blog calendar and have your posts prepared in advance.
I write one blog post per week and I always do my best to publish on Thursdays. The beauty is that you don’t have to publish one post per week. You can choose what works best for you as long as it’s a timeline you can maintain.
If writing a blog post once a month is all you can do then that’s fine! Just make sure you post every month. You can choose once every other week, or even twice a week. Whatever it is, you just have to make sure you stick to it long term. I mean, minimum a year! So be realistic when setting your schedule
And of course, it’s not only about what you enjoy doing and how often you post. Every marketing strategy has well a strategy. This is one of the first things that actually drew me to blogging. Learning that I didn’t have to show up on socials and dance to trending songs was just a bonus!
Your blog can hugely increase your website traffic. Which means potentially increasing your leads and conversions, if you are providing valuable and helpful content! It’s a great way to build your community and grow your email list.
Every blog post you write has the potential to reach new clients. You want to be strategic with the blog posts you are writing. This is extremely important! There’s no point in spending time writing something that no one will ever read. And the way to do this is by doing keyword research to learn what your clients are actually searching for. My preferred tool for keyword research is SERanking.
How amazing is that though! You learn exactly what your clients want to know and then you provide them the answers. And once your SEO gets picked up and your posts start ranking, you’re getting right infront of your ideal clients! That’s the beauty of blogging and having an SEO optimized website. You’re landing directly infront of people who are actively searching for your services.
Whereas on social media, you might pop up in front of people who aren’t necessarily looking to hire you. Or people who aren’t necessarily interested in your business.
If you want to learn how to do your own keyword research I have a blog post that walks you through it. You can read that here: 4 Ways To Do SEO Keyword Research
Or you can book a free consultation if you want me to build out a blogging strategy for you. This will be a lot more in depth of course than if you do it yourself. But choose what works best for you at this time!
When I create a blogging strategy for you it’s based on in-depth keyword research. We start off by having you fill out a questionnaire which helps me get clear on what services you provide. As well as who you are marketing to and who your competitors are.
I use those answers to build out a list of keywords/phrases that best suit your services. I also do competitor analysis to see what their SEO strategy may be and to see if there is anything we can also implement that will benefir your marketing strategy.
From there I build out a list of blog topics for you to write about. I also provide related keywords that should be used in each blog post. You essentially get an outline for each blog post which makes it so much easier to sit down and actually write the thing!
Remember, the reason this is SO important is because you don’t want to waste your time writing blog content that’s not being searched. We need to know what your ideal clients are actually searching for and how they are search. It’s all based on data!
Honestly, as much as I love this marketing strategy, it’s not for everyone. For starters, you should enjoy writing to some extent. You can use voice note to just speak it out loud and have it transcribed. No shame in that!
But it’s more than just sitting down and writing. Blogs do take a long time to write, anywhere from 2-3 hours. And tbh, it takes some people even longer. I had someone tell me they take 10 hours to write one post! I don’t think you need to do that though.
The thing you need to remember is that the post just needs to provide helpful and valuable content. Write for your reader vs writing for search engines. If you are providing answers to the users search queries and they are staying on your page reading. This signals to Google that your content is relevant. The more time users spend on your website/blog posts the more Google will trust and serve it.
When you have a stong blogging schedule it really does take the pressure off as well. You know exactly what you’re going to write about and you know it’s something that’s relevant. It honestly is tough when you’re randomly coming up with ideas when you sit down. Don’t do that my friend, you don’t want to sit down and hope that an amazing idea will just pop in your mind. And then it will also happen to be something people are searching for. Data is key here!
You will not be getting any instant gratification here! It can take anywhere from 6-12 months just for your website and posts to start ranking in search results. Which can make it hard! Truly, if you are writing weekly posts and not seeing results, a few months in you might start wondering if it’s worth it. You really need to commit to blogging consistently regardless of results. Because the results will come, but they will take time.
However, once those results do come in, it’s like a snowball effect. Your website traffic can rapidly start growing. And once your posts rank they can continue to bring traffic to your site for years to come! That’s right, the shelf life of blog posts can be years! So in hindsight the post that took you 3 hours to write, will be worth it for years! (If it’s researched and written correctly using keywords + SEO strategy).
I always feel like the time is going to pass anyways. You can start your blog now or you can start it a year from now. If you start now, it will most likely have started to bring in traffic a year from now.
